Celtic Mother Goddess, Goddess of Horses and of War.

Rhiannon is ready to ride to you, cloaked in mystery and power, a key clasped in her hand. She offers strength, healing, wisdom, and protection. As we reclaim our Celtic heritage, Rhiannon reaches to us across the divide of ages.

Today, as in the past, horse lovers everywhere adopt Rhiannon as their own.

Rhiannon was worshiped mainly in Gaul but also in Britain where her following merged with that of Macha, Rigantona and Epona. An indication of her high status can be inferred by the more than 300 monuments to her discovered in Gaul alone, especially erected in stables.

The horse was a vital totem in Celtic culture and therefore much loved in their art and myth. She was also adopted by Roman cavalry units along the Rhine, Danube, and Scottish frontiers emphasizing her military connections. As a mother goddess manifesting earth's fertility, Rhiannon/Epona was shown with paterae (dishes of fruit) and conucopiae (horns of plenty).
